Scarce Map of Ireland by Zatta
An original, antique, copper-engraved map of the Eastern part of Ireland and provincies Ulster and Leinster. Generous margins All the major cities and towns are marked and there is great topographical detail, with rivers and mountains clearly marked. A wonderful decorative cartouche with a fishing theme, nets and fish, completes this lovely and unusual map.
This map comes from the Atlante Novissimo produced by the Italian cartographer and publisher Antonio Zatta in the late 1700s. This atlas was published in Venice, consisted of 4 volumes and 218 maps, and was often regarded as one of the most attractive to appear in the second half of the 18th century. The maps, including this one, reflect Zatta's distinctive style, seen, for example in the design of the cartouches.
Zatta also produced a companion map of the west of Ireland, (Connaught and Munster), to complete his Irish maps.
