Scarce Sparke Map of Udrone -1635

A nice example of the Hondius Udrone map, (Carlow Area)published in London by Michael Sparke & Samuel Cartwright in 1635. Printed on one sheet of laid paper.

According to Andrew Bonar Law in his Maps of Ireland to 1612, 'Hondius published a smaller version of the Mercator Atlas in 1607, under the title "Atlas Minor"... the smaller version was more suited to the requirements of the general public, being smaller and therefore handier and above all cheaper".

Michael Sparke & Samuel Cartwright published three English language editions of the atlas in the years 1635, 1637 and 1639. This map is from the 1635 edition.

This is a very good an example of the Michael Sparke, Mercator/ Hondius Udrone map. A rare and attractive item. A good addition to any serious collection of maps relating Ireland. These maps rarely come on the market!
