Fine double page Dublin townplan by John Tallis (John Tallis & Co, London & New York) of the city of Dublin.

 

This double sheet map features 6 wonderful vignette illustrations of various landmarks, including the Custom House, Four Courts, Nelson's Column, St.Patricks Cathedral, Kings Bridge and the North Wall Lighthouse. Uncoloured

 

The map extends from the Navan Rd on the North Side to Portobello Barracks on the Southside. It extends from Kilmainham in the West to Ringsend in the east of the city. 

 

Tallis was one of the last great decorative map makers. His maps are prized for the wonderful vignettes of indigenous scenes, people, etc. Lovely strong impression. A good example of his work.

 

The plan was drawn and engraved by John Rapkin. The Illustrations drawn by H.Winkles and engraved by J.C.Varrall. Decorative engraved borders. Scarce.
