  • Condition - Very Good. A number of original folds, but no weaknesses. Nice use of colour. Small area close cropped to left margin where it as inserted in an atlas, otherwise excellent.

Attractive Large 18th Century Chart of The Indian Ocean

The area covered by this desirable chart is from the Cape of Good Hope to Canton & Western Australia. Includes Eastern Africa, Madagascar, Arabia, Persia, India, Ceylon, Siam, Cambodia, Sumatra and Borneo.

Some charming mistakes and errors. The most notable being the shape of Cambodia, where there is a large inland lake in the area of the Mekong Delta. The map is notable in having an early shape for Western Australia, or Nouvelle Hollande. Attractive cartouche and it names dozens of important cities and ports. Small understated Fleur de Lys at the centre of the map just below the equator, is used as a compass rose.

Important Early Chart.
