Attractive Large Original Print
Large Print of Dublin, dated 1878, from The Graphic. This was the title page to a special supplement on Dublin, and has a wonderfully elaborate boxed title header with 'Dublin' set against the sky-line of the city's landmark buildings and the arms and motto of the city in the background.
The main photograph is of the Custom House with much activity in the foreground as ships are being unloaded, with figures in contemporary costume going about their daily work. Centre engraving is of Howth Castle, and there is a rather elaborate celtic woodcut initial 'D' prefacing the charming text which starts with .. "Dim as the past history of this city may at first appear....and delightful from the discovery on every hand of testimonies teeming with dramatic incident.."
This is a wonderful original print of a vibrant and exciting Victorian city.
