Large Collectable Map of Ireland's Canal System
Attractive copper engraved map published in History of the City of Dublin, its Present Extent, Public Buildings, Schools, Institutions, etc., by the late J. Warburton, the late Rev. J. Whitelaw, and the Rev. Robert Walsh. 1818.
Whitelaw was an author and philanthropist. By all accounts he laboured tirelessly among the poor, establishing schools, industrial institutions, and loan funds. He carried out a census of the City of Dublin in 1798, and with Warburton, Deputy-keeper of the Records in Dublin Castle compiled information for a History of the City of Dublin.
He died however before his work was completed, by contracting fever at the Cork-street Fever Hospital, having administered the sacrament separately to six seriously ill patients on the one day. The work was completed by the Rev. Robert Walsh.
This map is a very detailed and well executed work, and is a good addition to any collection of maps of Ireland's waterways. It looks wonderful framed!
