The Dublin Collection
400 Years of Dublin's History on Paper
We have assembled a variety of interesting and scarce items relating in our Dublin Collection which should appeal anybody with an interest in our capital's history .
Items of particular interest are the two large Victorian Panoramas of Dublin [1 ] [2 ], or the early sets of railway plans. We have a wonderful set of original plans for Ireland's first railway, the Dublin to Kingstown , which were drawn by Charles Vignoles, in 1834.
Or take a look at the plans for the proposed Colonnade Interconnector (pictured) between Heuston and Connolly stations, which were drawn up in 1837, (again by Charles Vignoles), on a subject which is highly controversial at the moment.
Take a look at early plans of Dublin, by the likes of such luminaries as John Speed , Pieter Van der Aa , John Andrews , Nicholas Bellin , Braun & Hogenburg , Thomas Larcom or John Tallis to see how the city has changed over the years. An interesting error on Bellin's map of Dublin refers to the Liffey as the 'Riviere IFFY', if that's a reference to the smell from the river, then maybe, not much has changed!
We have some keenly priced attractive topographic and architectural views which would look wonderful framed, and we have a large collection of ephemera and books relating to Dublin, which should also be of interest.
