Bathymetric map

 Bathymetry is the science of measuring water depths, usually ocean depths, to determine the bottom topography. A bathymetric map therefore is a chart displaying this information.

Binding

The cover of the book

Binding Copy

A book which needs to be rebound and is worth rebinding.

Bleaching

The process of whitening or lightening age-darkened paper,or removing stains. A professional process to improve the appearance of a map.

Blind-stamping

Impressed mark usually appearing on the binding of a book. Appears as a decoration or lettering but not coloured or gilded

Boards

The stiff binding material on the front and back of books. The covers.

Border

A (usually) decorative device used to embellish the outer limits of a printed map image.

Broadside (broadsheet)

A single complete sheet of paper printed on one side only.

Browning

The darkening of paper over time. Age-toning. May be indicative of poor paper or improper storage conditions.
